- Description
- Fourteen small silver sixth-stater coins. Obverse: female head facing left, wearing close-fitting cap held in place by band (or helmet?); circular earring. Reverse: single quadripartite incuse square. Diameter 0.009-0.0115; weight (2848-2861): 1.28, 1.27, 1.33, 1.28, 1.32, 1.25, 1.37, 1.29, 1.29, 1.31, 1.26, 1.21, 1.28, 1.27 g.
- Comments
- From the same hoard as the Lydian and Persian coins, these small Ionian Greek coins undoubtedly come from a local mint. This is often identified as Phokaia, but was perhaps Smyrna itself (Robinson).
