- Description
Mouth, rim, and neck. Around the mouth is a thin circle of glaze from which spring sixteen tongues, irregular in spacing and form. Near the rim are two concentric circles of glaze; the side of the rim is reserved. At the top of the neck are the remains of a series of tongues that once decorated the shoulder; portions of ten are preserved. Glaze: glossy, black, and somewhat worn. Clay: hard, smooth, and fine. Yellow-buff. Munsell no. 10 YR between 8/4 and 8/3 (very pale brown).
The decorative scheme is typical of EC aryballoi.
