Αὐρ. Τατιανοῦ Ὑ- ψικλέους Σ- αρδιανοῦ β- 4 ουλευτοῦ κ- αὶ στρατηγοῦ· κα- τεσκεύασεν αὐτ- ῷ καὶ γυνεκὶ καὶ 8 τέκνυς καὶ ἐγό- νυς· εἴ τ‹ι›ς δὲ ἕτερ- ον θήσι, δώσι τ- ῷ εἱερῷ ταμ‹ί›ῳ 12 (δηνάρια) ̗ε.

- “(Tomb) of Aur(elius) Tatianos Hypsikles, councilor of Sardis and strategos. He has built it for himself and for his wife and for (their) children and descendants. If anybody will bury somebody else, he will pay to the imperial treasury 5,000 denarii.”

Block of marble with a tabula ansata. The inscription was written, running over the molding, when the tabula ansata (turned 90 degrees) was reused.

1–2 The English translation corresponds to that of Herrmann: “(Grab) des Aur(elius) Tatianos Hypsikles, Ratsherren von Sardeis…” Hypsikles may perhaps have been the name of the father of Aurelius Tatianos.
